The B Duck Cafe – Yuen Long, Hong Kong
It had been some time since my last visit to a character cafe in Hong Kong so when I found out there is now a B Duck Cafe located in the New Territories, I quickly added it to my list of plans for my next trip to the city. There is not much English information at all online about the B Duck Cafe – all I really knew was that it was located in the Yoho Mall in Yuen Long close to the border with Mainland China.
To get to Yuen Long from Hong Kong Island on the MTR, I took the Tung Chung Line from Hong Kong Station to Nam Cheong where I transferred to the West Rail Line to Yuen Long. The journey took thirty minutes and cost HK$28.3 using my Octopus Card. Once at Yuen Long Station, you need to take Exit K and follow the signs into Yoho Mall I. I wasn’t sure where in the mall the B Duck Cafe was located but if you take the up escalator just before reaching the Imax cinema, the cafe is located on the second floor.

I had seen online that the cafe opened at 11:00am but when I arrived at 11:10am it was still closed. One of the servers who was setting up let me know that the opening time was 11:30am so after taking some photos of the B Duck displays outside of the cafe area, I walked around the mall to kill some time.

When I returned once the cafe had opened, I was given a menu and shown to a table. It was still quiet at this time and there was only one other family there. This is one reason why I always love to visit places in Hong Kong early as soon as they open as they are always at their quietest at that time whereas they usually get very busy late afternoons and in the evenings.
I started to look at menu which had photos but was all written in Cantonese. Not knowing what I could order, I went to get my phone to use Google Translate when one of the staff came running over apologising and handing me an English menu. I noticed that the numbers next to each of the items on the English menu matched up to those in the Cantonese menu as well as to the photos. One thing I never noticed at the time but have since spotted is that is both menus, one of the options is “Burger and Snake!”
I really wanted to get the rice that was shaped like B Duck but all the hot options on the menu had meat on them. So my backup in these situations is to head straight to the dessert section of the menu. I ordered the Mango Sago with Pomelo to eat (which I knew I had to order when I saw a photo of it) and the Mixed Berry Fruit Tea.

Whilst I was waiting for my food, it was the perfect time to take a few more photos of the cafe. There were B Duck murals on all of the walls as well as different coloured ducks inside the lights above the tables. I was happy to be able to get a photo of the Buffy Duck sat at one of the tables before some people arrived and sat down next to her.

My mixed Berry Fruit Tea arrived first and was absolutely delicious and refreshing and I loved the giant ice block in the shape of B Duck at the top of the glass. My Mango Sago dessert was even more incredible – the B Duck-shaped mango jelly sitting in a “bubble bath” of milk, pomelo and boba pearls was too cute for words.

Altogether I paid HK$99 (including the 10% service charge) at the B Duck Cafe which works out to Β£10 / US$12.50. They also had B Duck figurines in different outfits for sale but I did not buy one even though they were adorable.

Even though Yuen Long is not located near the normal tourist areas of Hong Kong Island and Kowloon, I would recommend a quick visit to the New Territories to anyone if you love cafes like this. It did not take long to get to the B Duck Cafe and it was great to be able to see somewhere different in Hong Kong.
Now to find my next cafe to visit in Hong Kong. I cannot wait to see what I find!
