Disney Fantasy Eastern Caribbean Cruise: Day Three – At Sea
On the second sea day of our Eastern Caribbean cruise on the Disney Fantasy, we both had a much needed lay-in after having a busy few days. I woke up about 8:30am and walked to Cabanas to get us both a cup of tea and immediately noticed how much calmer it seemed in there than it had the day before. The plan for this day was a chilled and calm relaxed day as we had our long awaited dinner at Remy booked for that evening.
It was a beautiful morning outside and the view from our verandah was perfect however we immediately noticed that our verandah was covered with soot from the funnels – I had read online before the cruise that other people had experienced this with their staterooms located Aft on the Disney Fantasy so it was not unexpected.

About an hour later, we made our way to Cabanas to get some breakfast and as the Aft of the ship was in the shade, we grabbed a table outside to eat our breakfast. At the omelette station I noticed a sign offering a Plant-Based Scramble which I had to get as even though I do not eat meat, I’m not vegan in the slightest but one food I really do not like is eggs! The scramble tasted really good and it was great to see something different being offered for breakfast.
Once we finished breakfast, my boyfriend headed down to the Buena Vista Theatre to watch Avengers: Endgame which meant I had three hours and two minutes of time to kill.
For the next three hours I explored the Disney Fantasy. It was very busy up on deck by the pools and in the lobby where there were lots of character meet and greets taking place. I also went back through the Europa adult area to look at some of the details again that had been pointed out during our Art of the Theme Show tour the day before as well as look at the artwork in the stairwells. A lot of people also seemed to be doing the Midship Detective Agency on this day – we missed this out on our cruise on the Disney Dream but were both looking forward to it later on during this cruise when we hoped it would be a little quieter.

As I got up to Decks 11 and 12, it started raining and from where I was standing, it was like watching a comedy sketch as people were jumping up from their sun loungers and getting out of the pool and running for cover. I made my way inside to dry off my camera and once again looked around the shops but there was still nothing I wanted to buy on this cruise. It seemed all the decent t-shirts were for men as the ladies-fit t-shirts were all awful designs. I went back to Deck 11 and the sun was already back out so the rain had only lasted for a few minutes and normal service had resumed. It was already noticeable how many people had already caught the sun as there was so much sunburn in sight and it was only the second full day of the cruise!
I stopped by Cove Cafe to get myself a coffee and I took it with me to Currents on Deck 13 as I wanted to sit and listen to the ship’s horns at Midday. I had to keep moving my chair to try and stay in the shade (it was such a hot day and the sun was so strong and I did not want to burn) but finally Captain Marco made his announcement at 12:20pm followed by an announcement from Lesley our Cruise Director. All the horns finally sounded and I noticed that no one was sitting there with their fingers in their ears like I have seen before on my cruises on the Disney Magic and the Disney Wonder.

I was feeling hungry so as there was still another hour to go before Avengers: Endgame finished when I was meeting back with my boyfriend to have lunch together, I grabbed a small slice to pizza to keep me going whilst I waited. It was so busy on deck and there were no empty tables or chairs anywhere in the Quiet Cove area (but lots of bags and towels dumped on them to reserve them with no one in sight) but thankfully I finally found an empty table near Eye Scream and Frozone Treats.
I went and sat near the Vista Cafe on Deck 4 watching the world go by as I was waited for the movie to finish. One thing that I noticed during this day was that a lot of people seemed to be getting cabin fever as we had been at sea since leaving Port Canaveral as I saw many people especially families getting snappy with each other. I guess some people were looking forward to the next day in Tortola and not being at sea.
Whilst I was sat on Deck 4, the Princess Gathering was taking place in the lobby atrium and I loved listening to the Disney music playing at the time. My boyfriend met me on Deck 4 after Avengers: Endgame had finished just as Princess Minnie Mouse turned up so we waited a few minutes to meet her before going for lunch at Cabanas.

After lunch, we both wanted a lazy afternoon so we spent some time chilling on the verandah in our stateroom (Antonio had cleaned all the soot away when he had serviced our room that morning) and we also took the time to do some laundry whilst the machines were quiet as we were both running out of clean clothes.
The thing I was most excited about that afternoon was seeing Captain Minnie Mouse who we had been told was meeting everyone several times that day. After having a shower and getting dressed, we headed back to Deck 4 a few minutes before 4:45pm and there was only two other people already waiting. When Captain Minnie appeared, so many people in the lobby atrium whooped and cheered her and it was lovely to see. It was great to meet her as I had been looking forward to seeing her since her promotion to Captain was announced two weeks before our cruise.
I could not wait to get back to our room to look at the photos but disaster struck when I saw them and realised the flash had been on the wrong settings so none of the pictures had come out. Thankfully Captain Minnie was meeting everyone again at 5:45pm on Deck 4 so we once again went to meet her and we got the photos that we wanted.

Once we were back in our room, we had just over two hours before our dinner reservation at Remy. There was a beautiful sunset which we sat and watched and for the first time in a few cruises, I was feeling slightly anxious about the evening ahead as this was something that was new to both of us and I had no idea what to expect or even what food I would be eating that night. After looking forward to it for so long, I was so hoping that I would enjoy it as much as I wanted to.

Once we were dressed we made our way up to Deck 12 feeling very overdressed compared to all the other people we saw on our way there. Remy has a strict dress code which is enforced and we had both brought clothes with us especially for this one evening. We waited in the Meridian Bar for a few minutes before being taken into Remy and first being shown some of the wine on display (there is a bottle of Chateau Cheval Blanc 1947 which the critic Anton Ego orders in the movie Ratatouille which costs $25,000) as well as the Swarovski crystal Remy in the ceiling who overlooks the restaurant.
Looking around the restaurant, there is such a special ambience that you see why there is a dress code – you simply would feel out of place wearing anything else. This is not a place to come to wearing jeans, t-shirts, trainers or any casual clothes – it simply would not be right.
I have written about my dinner at Remy in a separate blog post as it feel it deserves it. Needless to say, everything about our evening was exquisite and I was nearly in tears several times as the food was so perfect. I had let them know beforehand that I did not eat meat and I can honestly say that I have never had a more perfect vegetarian meal in my life. The menu designed by Chef Arnaud Lallement of L’Assiette Champenoise near Reims in France and Chef Scott Hunnel from Victoria & Albert’s at the Grand Floridian at Walt Disney World Resort is simply perfect in every way. Our server Angelo, Duncan the sommelier and Benoit the Maitre D’ took such amazing care of us that neither of us wanted the evening to end.
Whilst dinner at Remy is not cheap at $125 per person before any extra charges, wine pairings or other drinks – it is an experience like nothing I have ever known and I consider it completely worth every penny that it cost. This is also a meal that you do not rush as there are so many different courses that you have to savour and enjoy – we spent three hours at Remy which simply flew by.

Once we had finished our meal, it was nearly 11:00pm and we were both happily full of food as well as starting to get very tired. We walked down to Deck 11 to each get a peppermint tea to help digest the incredible food we had been eating. If we had felt overdressed before dinner, we really felt overdressed standing next to the family pool whilst getting our drinks! But it also felt wonderful in a way I cannot describe. I’d had the best meal of my life and I simply could not stop smiling.

Once back in our stateroom, taking off my heels and my dress felt heavenly and my pyjamas felt like the most comfortable clothes in the world – which they are most of the time to be fair. Neither of us could stop talking about our dinner in Remy and we might have even started watching Ratatouille on the televsion before finally falling asleep!
Next stop: Tortola in the British Virgin Islands.

Did you enjoy of the adult activities on board? Was Chris the Entertainment Director? My son and I are going on this same cruise in mid July.
Hi Missey. I’m so sorry that I cannot help you on this one as the only “adult activity” we did the whole cruise was the Art of the Theme Show tour which was absolutely brilliant. In five cruises, I’ve never watched any of the adult entertainment in the bars and clubs in the evenings as it really is not my thing – I much prefer the peace and quiet of the open decks or a verandah. I know one of the entertainment staff was called Chris as I heard them talking about him on the Good Morning Disney Fantasy TV show but I could not tell you any more. Sorry I could not be of more help on this one but this is the one area of DCL that I have no experience with. Have a great time on the Fantasy in July – you will have an amazing cruise 🙂
