The mountain area of Holmenkollen is located just outside the city centre of Oslo and is home to one of Norway’s biggest and most famous attractions – the Holmenkollbakken Ski Jump and the Ski Museum of Holmenkollen.  It was the site of the 1952 Winter Olympics and a trip here is a definite must do when visiting Norway. When flying to Oslo in the incredible country of Norway, you will more than likely land at Oslo Gardermoen Airport which is located twenty miles north of the city. Like several airports that I have visited throughout Europe, there are two train services that you can take into the city – one expensive express train aimed at tourists as well as a much more affordable regional train. Both of these trains travel to Oslo Central Station (Oslo Sentralstasjon) also known as Oslo S and take nearly the same amount of time to do the same journey yet one is almost half the price of the other. Norway is already a very expensive country to visit but by taking the cheaper train when you land, you can save a lot of money. (more…)

Arlanda Airport is located twenty five miles from the centre of Stockholm and there are several different transportation options available to travel into the city. On our recent trip to Sweden we used both the Arlanda Express train as well as the Flygbussarna Airport Coach. Whilst these two options are not the cheapest way to travel between the airport and the city centre, they are the definitely the easiest, quickest, best and most convenient. (more…)

When I travelled to Copenhagen for my birthday last year, I asked some friends and family for suggestions and ideas of sights that I needed to see (apart from the obvious things such as the Little Mermaid, Tivoli and Nyhavn) and my brother told me about the Tower (Tårnet) at Christiansborg Palace which is actually free of charge to visit. When we visited Copenhagen for my birthday in October, we took the first flight in the morning from Heathrow as we always do whenever we fly somewhere in Europe. As we landed so early into Denmark, we decided that the only thing to do was to get the train from the airport across the Oresund Bridge to Malmö so we could both tick Sweden off on our list of countries we have visited.
