If visiting Tortola in the British Virgin Islands for a day on a cruise, there is simply no better way to see the island than to rent a car whilst you are in port. Driving in Tortola is very easy and it does not take long to get anywhere on the island so you can see a lot of different places and various beaches in your own time. It is also an incredibly affordable way to explore Tortola (especially if there is a group of you) rather than pay for an overpriced organised tour. (more…)
After our previous day in Tortola on our Eastern Caribbean cruise on the Disney Fantasy, I woke up as the thrusters of the ship signalled that we were about to dock in St Thomas. Even though the two ports are under twenty nautical miles apart, the map on the television showed that we had sailed away from the British Virgin Islands overnight, sailed in a few circles before sailing back towards the US Virgin Islands. It was a beautiful sunny day outside and even though we did not have too many plans, we were both looking forward to our day in St Thomas. (more…)
Despite having a late night the evening before, I actually woke up before 6:00am without the need for an alarm clock. As I was awake so early and could not get back to sleep, I sat on our verandah and watched a beautiful sunrise as we sailed slowly through the British Virgin Islands on our way to Tortola. (more…)
My recent trip to Havana was not my first visit to Cuba – I was last in Havana back in the summer of 2005 and sadly due to a hurricane passing the island, I did not get to see anything and because of this, I do not remember too much about my stay at all hence why on my latest visit in March 2019, I was determined to see as much of Havana as I could in the three days that I was there. The very first time I heard about the village of Hell on the island of Grand Cayman in the Cayman Islands was when I was a child watching a travel show on the television one evening. I never forgot about it so when we sailed to Grand Cayman on our Very Merrytime Cruise on the Disney Wonder in December 2017, it was one of the only things I wanted to do whilst we were there. After a brilliant albeit tiring day the day before in Grand Cayman on our Very Merrytime Cruise on the Disney Wonder, we were both looking forward to a more relaxed day. We were woken up just after 7:00am by the thrusters of the ship as we started to dock in Falmouth. I tried to fall back asleep but could not which was annoying as it was going to be a long day as the Pirates IN the Caribbean fireworks were due to start at 10:00pm that night. (more…)
After our lazy day of not doing anything in Cozumel the day before, I woke up at 8:00am (after originally waking up at 6:00am) on our Very Merrytime Cruise on the Disney Wonder excited and raring to go as I was actually really looking forward to visiting the Cayman Islands – somewhere I had never visited before. It was noticeable that there was quite a lot of movement on the ship and the sea seemed quite rough outside and I was hoping that this would not affect our day as Grand Cayman is a tender port.
