On our recent trip to the Canadian Rockies, I made it my goal to get a photograph of one of the most iconic views of Lake Louise. The aerial view of the lake with the Fairmont Chateau hotel in the background is taken from the viewing platform at the end of the Fairview Lookout hiking trail.
The best part of the Fairview Lookout trail (apart from the view obviously) is that it is one of the easiest hiking trails in the area and also if time is a factor, it will not take too long out of your day to do. The hike is approximately a 2km round trip and even with stopping for photos along the way and at the lookout, it should not take any more than an hour to do. As it was peak tourist season and amazing weather when we were there, we hiked the trail in the morning before the majority of crowds and bus tours arrived.
After arriving at Lake Louise, take the pathway from the car park towards the lake. Once there, you will see a boathouse on your left – this is where the trail begins.
The Fairview Lookout trail is clearly signposted the whole way so it is very difficult to get lost. Even though it is not a difficult hike, we did have to stop a few times to catch our breath – possibly from being at over 5000 feet above sea level. Having a bottle of water with you is also a must at all times but especially in the summer months as it does get very hot – there seemed to be a heatwave happening whilst we were there!
After climbing uphill through the trees for about twenty minutes or so, you will eventually reach the viewing platform and the most incredibly perfect view of Lake Louise and the surrounding areas.
